Forget mundane 9-to-5s. To Pixelia‘s career system is anything but ordinary. You’ll start with a basic job like waiting tables, cleaning the hotel, or baking just so you can pay rent and take care of your basic needs. You do have to eat and drink, after all. There are several different career paths you can aim for. If you enjoy music, go buy an instrument at Melody Square and join an impromptu jam session to practice. Start a band, compose music, and produce some albums, too. Once your music has gained popularity, you can perform at concerts and earn the big bucks from royalties. 

If art is more your speed, head on over to Starlight Studios where you can unleash your inner artist  through sculpting, painting, or other forms of art. Inkwell Library lets you practice your writing skills so one day you can write a bestselling masterpiece. Or join the Pixel Basketball league and become a famous basketball player. Make use of Pixelia Gymnasium to lift weights and prepare for your career in boxing. You can even dip your toes into the political scene and build a campaign. Hire a team of assistants and PR professionals, deliver inspiring speeches, and get elected as president so you can pass laws, raise taxes, and enact legislation. Your choices do affect public opinion, so choose wisely! 

What’s even better than the number of job options throughout the game, is that To Pixelia took things further and have made working an in-depth feature. Jobs aren’t something that just happen to you. They have mini-games you can play in order to actually work the job. For example, as a baker, you will complete a mini-game to knead the dough necessary for recipes. You get to engage with your career choices instead of reading about them. If the city life gets too hectic, trade skyscrapers for the lush countryside where you can get back to your cozy gaming roots and farm the days away. Tend to your crops, care for adorable animals, and live a slower paced life.

You can live the life of a regular citizen if you choose, but you can also choose to rob banks, hack computers, or join a gang. There’s even gambling at the casino where you can play blackjack and the slot machines. Bet on underground fights, or invest in the stock market to strike it rich. To Pixelia has so much to do and experience, with even more planned for later updates. The developer is constantly listening to feedback and adjusting things, fixing bugs, and just producing such an in-depth, incredible game. 

In fact, since the game’s release in May, there have been about 10 updates. Some were general bug fixes, but most were some awesome QOL updates and additions to the game. You can now fully rebind keys to suit your play style. There’s a social media app your Pixelian can browse in their down time, too. Just limit that to 5 hours a day for their health! The guitar mini-game and baker mini-game were both made easier and more user friendly. Also added was storage inventory, the ever useful NPC tracking, dialogue skips, Steam Deck improvements, and more. There’s also plans for new clothes, Steam Cloud saves, being able to opt out of mini-games, plus more Steam Deck improvements.
