It looks like I’ve strangely made it my mission to find multiplayer games where the premise is “chore-like” if it were a real-life scenario. Not only do I find these types of games hilarious, but I’m also certain that they’ll make for great fun with friends. Especially if they are anything like Overcooked. May I present to you, Tools Up, a cooperative game about renovating homes. Paint walls, lay some tiles, move a bit of the furniture around in some pretty weird places. Developed by The Knights of Unity and published by All in! Games, Tools Up is coming soon in late 2019 for Steam, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
Gather up to 4 players for this fun couch co-op experience for people of all skills! Renovate the apartments in the mysterious skyscraper while the tenants are away. Be sure to follow their wishes left behind on the blueprints. Tear off wallpapers, bring down walls, bust down doors, and cover the floor with vibrant carpets and panels – just be sure to do it in time and clean up after yourself!
For more information about this game, you can check out the official website here.

Re:Legend is a monster-taming adventure RPG that I’ve had the pleasure of playing and giving my first impressions on my first couple in-game days thanks to developer Magnus Game Studio and publisher 505 Game. You can even try it for yourselves on Steam Early Access with a 15% discount only today! With the newest update, you can explore a Halloween-themed island with the chance to capture more Shadow Magnus! Read on below for more details on this spooktacular event.
As we draw closer to the night of All Hallow’s Eve, a chill settles in our bones and also our beloved world of Ethia. From behind the mists, a mysterious Island has made itself known to the denizens of Ethia by spreading darkness and scares. Where did this island come from, why did it reveal itself? All is left in the dark for now, unless there are adventurers that are willing to explore and brave the terrors to come.

Players will be able to explore a brand new island in the high seas of Ethia, where something spooky is flitting about terrorizing unlucky trespassers. All of you can look forward to new items and a new area to explore, and for those that are interested in Shadow Magnus then get ready your taming items. The Halloween event island will have a higher chance of spawning the eerie Shadow Magnus, so take the opportunity to stock up. However, you might need to progress the game a bit, if you’re a beginner, before reaching the Island. Just keep going and you might even see some surprises in the isle!

Lost Ember, created by Mooneye Studios, was announced during this year’s E3 to be releasing this past July 2019. However, during the same month, the developers stated they needed more time to polish the game and rework the story, therefore it will be delayed to a later date. Book of Travels, created by Might and Delight, is a relaxing game where you can create your own character and backstory, as well as create your own story. There are no main goals or sidequests, and you don’t have to save the world. Just enjoy walking through beautifully hand-painted and calm pastoral environments alone or with a small group of friends. The game will be available sometime in 2020 for PC, Mac and Linux. You can even wishlist it now on Steam here. The developers say it will cost $30.00 on Steam “and wherever you buy Book of Travels, there will be no subscription fee.” They also plan to continue to evolve the world, its lore and its backstory, adding events and levels for years to come.
This unique RPG will focus on exploration and discovery in your own creative way. Players that choose to forge relationships and travel with companions will only have access to emotes and symbols. Through wordless communication, the developers hope the players will find unique ways to say a lot with very little. To take part in this fairytale world, you can back it on Kickstarter here and receive in-game items, and art as rewards.

Letters, developed by 5am Games, a team of 3 members based in Zurich, Switzerland, is a puzzle-adventure game about friendship and using your words to make a difference. Solve riddles by literally moving around words through your character’s pen pal letters all while enjoying the cute graphics, the short but sweet gameplay, and an uplifting soundtrack! The game is currently in mid-production with the goal of releasing Letters in the first half of 2021. For now, Letters will be releasing on PC and Mac, with a later possibility of mobile and Nintendo Switch versions.
As of today, October 23rd, 2019, the developers have launched their Kickstarter campaign which you can find here. Their rewards not only include a digital copy of the game but also, digital wallpapers, the digital soundtrack, physical sticker sheets, postcards, enamel pins and t-shirts, and more!

Follow the life of Sarah by moving through pen pal letters and chat messages she sends to her friends. In a world made from paper and computers, words matter. So use their power to change drawings that block your way and interact with images of Sarah’s friends and family. Pick up words from the text and throw it at a drawing or image to change it.
Like in real life, finding the right words is hard. That’s why in Letters you can create new words by breaking apart the existing ones. Think out of the box and play with words in a new and fun way.
Follow Sarah’s life from childhood until she’s a young woman and make decisions for her along the way. Choose your words wisely cause you never know how they will affect Sarah’s life.
Letters is inspired by the branching storyline of Life is Strange, the personal feel of A Normal Lost Phone, the nostalgia of Emily is Away Too and the creators’ own experiences growing up. Furthermore, the game also has elements from traditional word-games like Scrabble. If that piques you’re interest, try out the free demo either on Steam or itch.io now! You can also view my demo playthrough below.

Mythic Ocean, created by Paralune, is a relaxing underwater adventure where you can befriend and influence gods. Explore coral reefs, caverns and more, all while talking to the local inhabitants! Now, you can try out the free demo which will allow you to experience the first 3 branching storylines. Below is the full gameplay video (with some edits for brevity) of the prologue along with my thoughts on the game. If you’re interested in trying it out for yourselves, go to the Steam page here.
You play in first-person view and awaken to a talking eel in a dark cavern with no memories. I’m not even sure what kind of being we are but perhaps that is part of the mystery. You are told that having no memories is the way things should be in order to make a fair judgement. You must choose one of the gods to create a new world but to do so, you have to get to know them, ask them questions and even present to them a new ways of thinking (if you want). I always love games that let you make decisions and then give you different outcomes depending on those choices.
As you swim around and take in all of the beautiful underwater scenery, you can use sonar abilities to help guide you in certain directions. Keep an eye out for missing pages, fish to talk to, and new areas that house a god. You’ll learn that the gods don’t remember their past either but dream of distant memories. In this prologue you will meet Lutra (an adorable water bug), Amar (a literal party-animal) and the Twins (playful but hot-headed children). I tried my best to keep the peace with everyone and have them befriend each other as well so they weren’t so lonely. When you return to the eel, Elil can tell you which god you are currently closest to and what they are thinking.
The story had a lot more intrigue and lore then I was expecting and now I really want to find out what happens next! What kind of world will the gods create? Why is Elil technically no longer a god? Which fish is truly the ultimate life of the party?

I’ve got you covered here: Wholesome Game Demos You Can Try Out Now for Free. Finally, you can also check out my playthrough of the prologue for Stranded Sails here.

We’re nearing Halloween, a wonderful time of year, and I wanted to keep you all in the festive mood this month! Although, I’ll never understand why people love pumpkins in October so much. I mean, potatoes are awesome every day of the year! Last month in September 2019, a creepy and cute little indie game gem was released for Steam, Origin, GOG and Humble Bundle. It’s a short casual and story-driven game with dark undertones but the narration by Mr. Voice and other voice acting really has me interested! If you’re a fan of A Series of Unfortunate Events, then you should probably check out this title.
Little Misfortune is an interactive story, focused on exploration and characters, both sweet and dark, where your choices have consequences. Starring Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez, an imaginative 8-year-old, who seeks the prize of Eternal Happiness, as a gift to her Mommy. Led by her new friend, Mr. Voice, they venture into the woods, where mysteries are unraveled and a little bit of bad luck unfolds. Sharing the same universe with the cult video game Fran Bow, created by the visionary dev-duo Killmonday Games.
Stay tuned for more news on announcements for PC, console and mobile versions! For another interactive and spooky narrative game, check out this article here: A Juggler’s Tale – A Sidescrolling Puppet Theater Game.
