Speaking of the zaniness and weirdness of most Anime from my last article, Boyfriend Dungeon, I was intrigued by another game announced during Nintendo’s live-stream of Indie World Showcase. Investigate crime scenes with numbers and puzzles, and interrogate a range of colorful characters in this sassy murder mystery; Murder by Numbers! Developed by Mediatonic (Fall Guys) and published by Irregular Corporation (Paleo Pines), Murder by Numbers will be releasing in early 2020 on the Nintendo Switch and Steam (Wishlist here).

Los Angeles, 1996. Honor Mizrahi was just an actress on a hit TV detective show. But when her boss ends up dead just minutes after he fires her, she finds herself starring in her own murder mystery. Teaming up with SCOUT, a reconnaissance robot (one that’s darn cute) thrown away after a mysterious incident, she sets out to clear her name – and a new detective duo is born! The soundtrack is even composed by Masakazu Sugimori (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Ghost Trick and Viewtiful Joe).

Since I’ve played the free demo of Mythic Ocean on Steam by indie developers Paralune, I had to know what would happen next and how my choices would affect the outcome of the game! I’m so happy that I don’t have to wait very long now because the full version is coming January 9th, 2020! If you’ve already played the demo, know that there is still so much more to discover and stories to finish!

This narrative exploration game has you adventuring under the sea and meeting adorable fishy characters and Gods. Befriend these Gods via conversation by carefully choosing what to say. This will also ultimately decide the fate of the universe! I have included this game to Wishlist in my Holiday Gift Guide for Gamers and Animal-Lovers because I’m already fond of every fish, dolphin, crab, and sea-creature I met on my journey!

Two Point Hospital, the cheeky hospital management simulation game by Two Point Studios and SEGA, finally has a release date for consoles; February 25th, 2020! Not only will you be able to pre-purchase it digitally right now on the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store today, with the Nintendo eShop listing coming soon, but there will also be physical copies too!

I enjoyed playing Two Point Hospital on Steam so much that I did a deep dive on how to perfect the game and get all of the stars with some advanced tips and tricks here. Not because the game is overly hard, but that I wanted to pour as many hours into it as possible and enjoy the flood of strange looking patients getting even stranger treatments. For those of you already playing this game, don’t forget you can purchase the Yogscast Jingle Jam Bundle over at Humble Bundle for charity and for some festive goodies.

A particular dating sim/dungeon-crawler has caught the attention of gamers everywhere for its unique and questionable premise. Although, if you’re a fan of Anime, you’re probably not fazed in the slightest. During Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase yesterday (December 10th, 2019), the very same indie game by Kitfox Games (Mondo Museum) was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2020! Behold, a game where you can literally fall in love with your weapons; Boyfriend Dungeon!

If you haven’t heard, Boyfriend Dungeon is all about choosing weapons to fight monsters with and then taking them out on dates to level up. Don’t worry, each weapon (total of 7) can transform into humanoids, and there’s one cat in case this wasn’t delightfully weird enough, all with various genders. Think Dream Daddy but the romantic partners aren’t daddies, they’re ‘stabbies’.

Your character is tasked with clearing the creatures in “the dunj” as their summer job and, during your down-time, why not take your weapons out for a stroll on the beach for a job well done and to get to know them better. As the developers like to put it: “A couple that slays together, stays together”. Below are the choices of heart-throbs, or rather heart-piercing, candidates!

Now hopefully we can all still look at our inanimate objects the same way again. Wonder if anyone thinks potatoes are cute? For more information on this “shack-and-slash” and to Wishlist it on Steam, go here!

Thanks to Nintendo’s live-stream today of Indie World Showcase, we got to see some pretty exciting indie games coming in 2020. My favorite announcement was a new survival game set in the Escapists Universe: The Survivalists, created by Team17. You can play alone or in co-op with up to three friends and explore, build, and craft together! Survive the island, a procedurally generated sandbox world, on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam in 2020.

The best part about The Survivalists is that you can tame monkeys and have them help you with building or fighting off enemies! Managing these adorable monkey employees working for bananas properly will make all the difference in braving the wilderness! Also, look at the little monkeys with their little spears and coconuts. Look at ’em!

    About The Survivalists

The island is alive! Your newfound home will change with day/night cycles as you explore and uncover its secrets. Hunt (or be hunted by!) animals for food and meet the local inhabitants, who aren’t necessarily pleased to see you. Get quests from a Mysterious Stranger or find them washed up on the shore. Prepare to trek into a procedurally generated wilderness, with a variety of biomes, for an adventure that’s unique to every player.

    Build Together, Survive Together

Finding the perils of island life too much or just looking to share your building expertise with friends? The Survivalists has you covered! Complete joint adventures, gain loot, trade and ultimately survive together and as you and up to three fellow castaways explore an island paradise.

    Monkey See, Monkey Do

If you’re in need of a builder, a lumberjack or even a soldier, the monkeys on the island can be tamed and trained to help you with everyday tasks or back you up on raids to a fanatic camp! The Mimic System means a wide variety of functions can be performed by your banana loving friends, with monkey management becoming key to surviving the island’s challenges.

    Get Crafty

The secret to survival is to make the most of the resources around you. Whether that’s piecing together a primitive axe to chop wood or mixing up a refreshing fruit smoothie to keep the hunger at bay, you can discover recipes and expand your options across food, item or structure crafting trees.

    Run the Gauntlet

Looking for an epic sword to hang on your hut wall or want to lay waste to encroaching hostiles? What you seek could be in one of the many temples scattered around the island. However, getting your hands on the loot won’t be easy so any would-be raiders will need to prepare for their treasure hunting crusade.

Wishlist The Survivalists on Steam right here!

I’ve been following this creature-collection MMO, created by Crema, for quite some time now. It may seem very similar to the beloved Pokemon series however it does offer some unique differences such as designing your own home interior, and fertility values for breeding and player emotes for online fun! Since I’ve really been enjoying Pokemon Shield’s multiplayer online features, I can’t wait to discover a variety of new monsters in a game completely designed for online!

Become the best Temtem tamer and explore the six islands of the Airborne Archipelago! Thanks to a new announcement trailer, we can do just that very soon as Temtem will be available in Early Access January 21st, 2020 on Steam here and Humble Bundle here. The developers note that the Early Access will contain the following: “50% of the story content, three different islands (each with its own unique biomes), co-op campaign, player customization, breeding, Luma hunting, and a competitive rule-set.”

Don’t worry if you’re not a PC gamer as Crema still has plans to launch Temtem on all major consoles sometime in Q4 2020.

Pile Up is a cooperative 3D platformer for 1 to 4 players where you play as adorable customizable boxes (Boxlings) and navigate colorful cardboard worlds! Now the developers, Seed by Seed, have made a wonderful announcement that they will be pairing up with publishers HandyGames (El Hijo) and be able to make Pile Up the best it can be!

Not only will you be able to Wishlist this game on Steam, but now it will also be coming to all consoles! Sometime in 2020 you’ll be able to play Pile Up on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC! I’m personally very excited by this news and can’t wait to play!

What we know so far is that there’s a hub world leading to several themed levels that have adorable boxy animals and puzzles to solve by coordinating with friends and using fun items. The developers have even added mini-games you can play together such as the action-packed Boxball, Pile of Dunk and Tic Pile Toe! If you want to follow what else the developers are up to, check out their official Twitter page!
