The Hidden Art of Innkeeping is a lovely pixel graphics innkeeping game by developer SeaPhoenix. Play as Elinor who is visiting a beautiful small town. After a particularly disastrous stay at the only beachside hotel in the area, you decide to convert an old farmhouse to an inn. Of course, renovating an old building isn’t cheap! So, you accept a loan from some mysterious tycoon that demands you pay up by the end of the month. Now you need to renovate the inn and make it turn a profit in order to earn enough money to pay back that loan.

Meet a cast of vibrant, fascinating guests as they come to your new inn. The Hidden Art of Innkeeping features biologists, adventurers, a pirate, and even a vampire. You might even see some familiar faces from the prequel game. Spend your days exploring and gathering items like paintings that will be displayed in the inn. Discovering these items will help you understand the past and who the former owner was. Complete different quests for the townspeople, and even recruit some new villagers. Then, spend time renovating your new inn and turn it from a dilapidated old farmhouse to a beautiful, luxurious inn. Configure the guest rooms, hire employees, stock your supplies, and create some tasty meals for your guests.

Will you be able to repay the loan in time?

    Release Date

The Hidden Art of Innkeeping is listed on Steam. You can add it to your Wishlist, but there is no specific release date. It’s projected for some time this year.

Alpine Lake is another upcoming cozy innkeeping game you should check out!

We’re just a week away from Halloween, and I’m so incredibly excited for it! What better way to celebrate it than with another cozy, yet spooky game to play? This time, we have Harvest Island, a farming sim with a horror twist. The gods demand a harvest offering, your dad is telling white lies, and the island itself seems to be hiding something.

Harvest Island is a narrative-driven horror farming sim game. You can farm crops, collect creatures from the tidepools like starfish and horseshoe crabs, and even forage items like coconuts and seaweed. Spend time catching fish, which you can also offer up to the gods in return for blessings that help you with your farming and crafting. You can also cook up the fish in tasty meals for yourself to restore your stamina!

Explore different areas and find the hidden spots of Harvest Island like a beautiful waterfall hiding a cave behind it, or the vending machine placed in the dark underground room at the beach. Craft different tools like ladders and rope to help you explore the island further, help you on your farm, and progress the story further. You can even befriend the animals you find in your adventure. Offer them food or a friendly pat, and they may reward you with items or show you an undiscovered place!

This deceitful island waits for you to explore it.

    Available Now

You can find this spooky farming sim on Steam now!

Next up in the Halloween recommendations is Mutazione

Over 100 years ago, the “Moon Dragon” meteor struck a popular tropical resort town. Those who survived began developing unique mutations. At first, rescue teams tried to help. As they retreated, however, the survivors created a small isolated community called Mutazione. And now you play as Kai, a 15-year-old who’s traveling to the community to take care of her ailing grandfather, Nonno. Except, Nonno has other plans for Kai.

Spend your days helping grandfather Nonno as his health fails him. Make new friends with the other inhabitants of Mutazione. Even plant musical gardens and trade seeds with them. Also attend BBQs, boat trips, and band nights to get to know the town. But most importantly, embark on a journey to save the people from the lurking darkness. Secrets and betrayals simmer under the surface of this friendly community, and it just might tear them apart.

They survived an apocalypse, but they might not survive the small-town drama!

    Available Now

You can find this charming supernatural story on Steam, Epic, GOG, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Everholm features Lilly, who is on the search for her lost sister, Melanie. As Lilly searches, she comes across a magical portal that draws her to Everholm. The little island is cute and cozy, and everyone already seems to know who she is. Despite the brand new setting, Lilly needs to find her sister while uncovering the mysteries of the island, and sets out to do just that with the help of a local witch.

Everholm is an open-ended role playing game that focuses on interpersonal relationships. You’ll play as Lilly as she works to solve the mysteries of the island. Meet the residents of Everholm, gain their trust, and figure out why they’re stuck on this cryptic island. It’s not all about just meeting the villagers, though. You’ll need to learn to live together, learn new skills, as well as making the most of life on the island. Learn how to farm crops, raise livestock, forage for resources, go fishing, and more. Turn your run-down homestead into a thriving farm.

However, Everholm isn’t all sunshine and butterflies. The little island holds many secrets, and it’s up to you to discover them. Dive into procedurally generated dungeons to fight the monsters that lurk underground. Use your weapons and spells to achieve success. Delve deep enough into the underground and you’ll likely be rewarded with rare materials!
The non-linear story allows you to play however you wish. Get to know all the villagers, or ignore some of the more difficult ones. Spend most of your days farming, or go dungeoning all day. However you choose to play, you’re sure to uncover the mysteries of Everholm and why your sister disappeared!

    Coming Soon

Everholm has a planned release of 2024 sometime. You can find it on Steam, where you can add it to your Wishlist!

I love cats. I also enjoy both mystery and adventure games. In the upcoming Peace Island, we get an alluring combination of all of these things. Currently in development by Eric Blumrich and a small team of experienced devs (known for games like Prune and Grand Theft Auto V), this game is already gathering attention online.

    About Peace Island:

You’ll play as cats! Starting out, you’ll be playing as the cat named Elizabeth. The day before, she was was coaxed into her pet taxi and dreading a trip to the veterinarian. She never sees the vet, though, instead falling asleep. When she awakes the next day, her human is nowhere to be found and the door is open.

Throughout the game, you will meet 8 other cats. You’ll need to gain the trust of these cats and eventually gain their friendship. At different points, you will control each of the different cats. Each one has unique strengths, weaknesses, and roles.

The world of Peace Island – outside from being Peace Island – is an open-world based on real-life Maine. Inside the island are 4 defined communities. These are Peace City Landing, Greenwood Farms, Ellison Heights, and LaFlamme Fishworks. These are settlements, farmlands, coastlines, woodlands, and more!

The story of the game is that the humans have all gone missing. The mystery is plentiful. There are an invasive species on the islands, artifacts and documents left behind, and 200 years worth of alternate history to unravel. Not only do you have to figure out what happened to the humans, you have to use the divergent storylines to decide if they are worth bringing back.

    Game Features:

    • Cooperate – You’ll have to gain the trust and build friendships with the other cats. You’re going to need them!
    • Discover – It’s up to you to find and piece together all the evidence.
    • Explore – The open-world is huge and scattered with lots of details.
    • Infiltrate – To solve the mystery, you’re going to have to get inside the buildings. It may take more skill to find a way into some of them.

Peace Island is currently in development for PC, Mac, and Oculus VR. There is no set release date, yet, but a beta should be coming soon. You can check out more and support the game on Patreon. You can also see daily screenshots on Twitter.

Don’t worry – I have your fill of cat games! Take a look at The Good Life, Another Sight, and Calico – just to get started. I also have mystery game suggestions – like the newest iteration of Layton’s Mystery Journey and the kooky Lord Winklebottom Investigates.

Complete Puzzles, Solve Mysteries, and Play Mini-Games

Lost in Play is crafted to look similar to many of the popular cartoons of the last decade, like Gravity Falls, Hilda, and Over the Garden Wall. Go on a nostalgic trip and relive that childhood imagination. Explore old ruins, fly through the sky on a giant stork, and even lead a rebellion in a goblin village.

Get lost in the child-like wonder and imaginations of Gal and Toto on an adventure. Explore fantastical dreamscapes and make friends with the magical creatures. Lost in their imagination, the brother and sister team must stick together to solve the various puzzles and mysteries they come across in their journey until they find their way back home.

While you explore the dream-like world of Lost in Play wrapped up in a modern point-and-click adventure, you’ll encounter plenty of fantastical creatures and puzzles. Help a team of frogs pull a sword from a stone. Collect the pieces to build a flying machine. Even challenge a pirate seagull to a game of clicking crabs.

Perhaps one of the best parts of this game is that it’s entirely family friendly. So, if you’re looking for a game to get the kids in on, this is a good one to give a chance. There’s also no dialogue. Everything is communicated visually, making it easier to play with your young ones too!

    Out Now!

Lost in Play is out now for Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Gog.com.

For another casual and relaxing game, check out A Little to the Left.

    A Story-rich Mystery Adventure

With Halloween fast approaching, I felt it appropriate to share Beacon Pines with all of you. It’s a cute and creepy adventure game set inside a mysterious book. As Hiding Spot Games puts it, “it’s Winnie-the-Pooh meets Twin Peaks”.

You’ll play as both the reader and Luka, the main character of the story. There is something weird happening at the local warehouse, but no one except Luka and his friends seems to take notice. Sneak out of the house late at night, meet new friends, and explore town to solve the mysteries of Beacon Pines.

While you adventure and investigate the mysteries of Beacon Pines, you’ll encounter special golden charms. Each charm has a single word engraved on it, and you’ll use these words to fill in the blanks of parts of the story. You may even drastically change the events of the story, depending on which words you use.

As the reader of the book, you’ll use the Chronicle to navigate the turning points of the story where words are missing. The Chronicle is an interactive story tree that grows as you progress in the story. Experiencing one piece of the story will unlock new charms for other parts of the story. So, you’ll spend your time bouncing around from story part to story part to get the whole picture of Beacon Pines.

    Out Now!

Beacon Pines is out now on Nintendo Switch, Steam, Itch.io, and Xbox.

Check out our previous article on other Halloween games you could play to get in the spooky (but cute!) mood.
