The Crown is a Fantasy Kingdom Builder where you play from the perspective of your Monarch (3rd-person view). Build and manage your Kingdom in unique ways while fighting off invaders. The game is currently in early development (about 7 months) by Brimstone Games with a free demo on PC coming soon in 2019. The company focuses on creating non-realistic system-driven games with a strong emphasis on cozy and charming art styles.

I don’t know much about this game so far, but what I do know, is hilarious. You’ll immediately notice in the video below that this builder is more hands-on than usual. What I mean by that is all buildings require you to throw materials at them. There’s actually quite a lot of throwing involved period; throw your trees, throw your buildings, throw your peasants, throw your wife and kids…Joking about that last part. It is also worth mentioning that the developers pointed that “you can arrest a horse”.

If you’re interested in other games by Brimstone Games, you can go to their official website here. For other town-building games, check out our articles here: Flotsam: Release And Introduction Trailer and Merchant of the Skies Updates, and Early Access Coming Soon.

Since I last mentioned Onsen Master’s Kickstarter a couple of weeks ago, a few announcements have been made by the indie developers, Waking Oni. For one, the Kickstarter campaign has been funded 100% with the first stretch goal unlocked. The first stretch goal included additional skins for your playable character Mu. See below for news on this hot spring management game coming to PC and Mac sometime in 2020!

Onsen Master Partners with Whitehorn Digital

This is most exciting news as Whitehorn Digital are the indie publishers behind Calico; the adorable simulation game filled with magical girls, cats, and a cafe! With their support, the developers of Onsen Master can now bring the game to consoles! A more official announcement of platforms and release dates will be coming at a later date. For now, the aim is to bring Onsen Master to PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. If you’re a backer of the Kickstarter, you’ll soon be receiving a survey asking your preferred platform version.

    Onsen Master Adds Multiplayer

The developers have announced that for the past month, they have been working on couch co-op for Onsen Master. They have just started testing an iteration with multiplayer now and it looks to be coming along nicely! Both players will each be controlling their own Mu (main character) which makes the stretch goal mentioned above a lot more fun to play around with. Meaning, you’ll be able to differentiate yourselves with additional costumes to wear during gameplay.

More information on the co-op feature will be coming soon as the developers are still uncertain on how it will be implemented saying the following: “Be it through the Main Story or the straight to the point Arcade Mode, you and a friend will soon be able to tackle rejuvenating the Onsens across Izajima!”

Look forward to finding out more as I keep a close eye on this frantic indie game inspired by Spirited Away and Overcooked where you greet customers, mix your ingredients, and heal their ailments!

As you all probably know by now, my favorite game is Animal Crossing. Through all of my adventures, I always really enjoyed bringing my fossils, insects, fish, and paintings to Blathers’ Museum and visit Celeste too! There’s just something about seeing my collections on display that make me a pretty proud potato. I’ve also been recently enjoying playing Two Point Hospital and arranging, designing, my rooms from the ground up! That’s why Mondo Museum, developed Viewport Games and published by Kitfox Games (Canadian studio), coming to Steam in 2020 has me tuber excited! In other words, Mondo Museum is a management sim that challenges you to construct, administer, and curate your own museum.

    About Mondo Museum

Mondo Museum is a management sim that challenges you to construct, administer, and curate your own museum. Choose what items to showcase, draw in the crowds, and grow your collection of cultural, artistic, historical, and scientific displays to expand from a humble exhibit hall into a world-class institution! This isn’t your average museum. This is Mondo Museum.

    Key Features

    • Construct a Museum: Create your own unique layout by placing exhibit halls, gift shops, theatres, and more. Then customize the look of each room with different floors, wallpapers, windows, and decor. But plan carefully… wouldn’t want to get lost in your own museum.
    • Choose Your Exhibits: Mix-and-match 100+ items across multiple collections, from Dinosaurs to Space Exploration. As your museum gains prestige, you’ll unlock new artifacts from around the world to play with.
    • Put Your Creativity on Display: Dive into an accessible modding system to create your own exhibit items to share on the Steam Workshop. Or download collections made by other players to spice up your museum.
    • Keep Calm and Curate On: Stay on your toes because you never know situations you might encounter. Meet the demands of a visiting VIP and they might loan you a rare exhibit, but keep an eye on that shaky-looking dinosaur skeleton…
    • Manage Your People: Attract visitors, address their comfort, make sure they exit through the gift shop (cha-ching), and manage their experience for maximum prestige and profit! Hire staff like researchers, conservators, and docents; they’ll keep your displays informative and, more importantly, intact.

Science and history are super cool so I wanted to know what are the items you are most looking forward to exhibiting in your museum. These items include: dinosaur skeletons, Ancient Egypt artifacts, space exploration equipment, and more!

With the new DLC for Two Point Hospital, Close Encounters, now available on Steam here (followed by console releases soon), we thought it was a great opportunity to dive back into the game! If you haven’t yet heard of this tycoon management game, you can check out the details with our review here.

Don’t be alarmed by the hospital setting; the illnesses you’ll encounter are all but ordinary and come with ‘punny’ alternatives. For example: Enjoy the visual details of someone walking into your hospital with a pan on their head and direct them to a treatment room where you remove it with a giant magnet! Since we wanted to get the most out of this game and feel compelled to achieve excellence, we went after the 3-star goals in every level. Below are some tips and tricks to help you avoid the same mistakes we made that resulted in figurative and literal dumpster fires.

Tips and Tricks for Two Point Hospital

You’ll notice that getting that first star is always quite easy but if you want to attempt the third, you’ll need to buy more plots and expand your hospital. This will obviously give you a lot more to manage. You might be making millions but when your expenses kick in, you can lose it all and maybe even go bankrupt if you’re not careful.

    Creating Rooms and Hospital Layout

    • You’ll want to start every level paused to save time and money by building the basics; Reception, GP Office, General Diagnostics, Toilets, Staff Room. Then hire the employees necessary to fill these rooms.
    • Only build the minimum required size for all rooms in your hospital because the level prestige can be raised by spamming Gold Awards for your walls that you’ll want to unlock with your Kudosh ASAP. Even rugs are handy because you don’t really have to worry about them getting in the way of anything else.
    • When planning out the layout of your hospital, be aware of your patients that need further diagnosis as they go to the GP Office to General Diagnostics and then back to GP. This means you’ll want to have them next to each other to shorten their walking distance.
    • Placing rooms that help diagnose patients can lead to a higher probability of a cure. These rooms are: General Diagnostics, Fluid Analysis, X-Ray, and MEGA Scanner.
    • You can greatly increase the overall health of the hospital by placing Hand Sanitizers in every room and in the hallways were there are drinking fountains. Also, don’t go placing too many garbage cans as this will just cause more work for your janitors and decrease your attractiveness when they fill up. You only need them near your vending machines and near treatment rooms for the pukers.
    • Make sure to place Fire Extinguishers in every treatment room that has machinery you need to repair. Furthermore, place more than one as they are single-use only! You don’t want to worry about this after a fire breaks out.
    • Placing Coffee Makers and Medicine Cabinets in every office (especially the GPs) will give your doctors a boost of much needed energy and diagnosis/treatment.

Essential Needs of Staff and Patients

    • You’ll need to place a large amount of GP Offices at a certain point so make sure to reduce the queue lines by placing drink and snack machines, toilets, and news racks nearby. Your patients will sometimes take their time or leave the lines to do these things.
    • Forget building cafeterias when you unlock them, they’re a huge waste of space, tie up your Assistants that are better used toward Reception, cause line-ups, and even seem to spread more germs. Don’t waste your Assistants’ time with Newstands either.
    • Toilets can be placed in 3×2 areas so they’re great to fill in those awkward spaces you might have. Just make sure to have one or two of those in every major section as patients can and will relieve themselves on your floors.
    • To keep everyone happy and improve your hospital’s reputation, do the objectives that pop-up and place a lot of decorations. Plants (mainly sunflowers) do the largest amount for a cheaper price and fountains are useful to put near your empty spaces by Reception.

    Training, Marketing, and Research

    • Do not hire staff that have the following traits: Cheese for Brains, Dirty Habits, Grumpy, Has a Dark Side, Litterer, Nasty, Nausea Inducing, Suffers from spontaneous bouts of snoozing, Tires Easily, Unhygienic, Unmotivated, Wants More Money, Weak Bladder, and Vengeful. These will have negative affects to happiness, efficiency, cleanliness, and more! These employees will ruin your entire hospital.
    • Some staff traits don’t do anything but others will have useful qualities such as Motivated and Positive. As long as you hire based on these traits, you don’t need to worry about higher tier levels as much.
    • You’ll want to train your employees often as this raises their happiness/morale with promotions and their patient treatments are more effective. Specialize your employees in specific areas such as Psychiatry. You can go up to level V in certain jobs.
    • Make sure you know the difference between which rooms are for Diagnostics and Treatment so you can train accordingly. For example, GPs should be trained in GP higher tier levels as wells as Diagnostic boosts, and Nurses in Pharmacy can be trained in Treatment for a better curing rate.
    • If you have a target to reach in a certain illness or you need to raise your reputation, create a marketing campaign specifically for it.
    • Research everything and anything to upgrade your machinery and to unlock different rooms. Everything you research will carry over to your other levels so you only have to do them once.
    • All three of those rooms can receive bonuses with certain objects. Place tons of encyclopedias in the Training Rooms, Servers (and ACs) in the Research labs, and more desks and Assistants in the Marketing rooms.

Other things you can do to help keep your hospital afloat are:

When you edit rooms, it kicks everyone out of them but don’t be afraid to rearrange or delete unused rooms as it will make things easier in the long run! You should also check up on your employees and fire staff that are under-performing. Then, keep checking your patients’ health and bump the ones that are near death up the queue line before they keel over! Finally, take your time and have fun!

Planet Zoo has a story-driven narrative featuring a fascinating cast of characters who take you along on a journey across the world!

The developers of Planet Zoo, Frontier Developments, have just announced details about their new Career Mode which includes a main storyline and several characters with unique personalities. If you haven’t read our last article regarding Zookeepers from their last Developer Journal, you can do so here. We here at myPotatoGames are blown-away by the amount of details and realism the creators are putting into the game which is releasing on PC November 5th, 2019. Frontier Developments assure us that the new Career Mode will be different than what you might be used to if you played their Planet Coaster game. See below for the details on the new mode and the first two new main characters from the latest Dev Post.

    Planet Zoo’s Career Mode

In Planet Zoo’s Career Mode, you will go on a trip around the world with new characters, exciting objectives, and lots of decisions that can impact the success of your zoos. There’s a bunch of unique Scenarios that follow along a beautiful and adventurous story, written by Graham Goring – and as it’s part of the Planet universe, there will be loads of light-hearted humour and heart-warming moments!

Each Scenario has its own unique challenges, determined by the continent you’re in, the biome you’re utilizing, the weather, the temperature, and of course animal availability. There will be goals for you to achieve (Bronze, Silver, and Gold), which contain gameplay objectives that vary in difficulty depending on how far you’ve progressed through the story – there’s a lot of unique objectives to get stuck in too! Each Scenario will open up with an introduction to your new surroundings by a character; in the first part of the story, you will mainly be interacting with Bernard “Bernie” Goodwin and Nancy Jones.

    The New Characters

Bernard “Bernie” Goodwin – Zoo Owner

Bernard is the owner of several zoos and has made it his life’s work to use them to drive positive change, saving endangered species and increasing animal welfare around the world. He is a warm and humorous character (he loves dad jokes!) who cares deeply for all people and animals alike. He sees the good in almost everyone he meets and wants to inspire others to follow in his path. Despite his age, he has the energy and zest for life of a man twenty years his junior!

    Nancy Jones – Head Zookeeper

Nancy has worked with Bernie for over thirty years and is a no-nonsense woman with a dry sense of humour. Nancy’s first job as a Zookeeper was actually at one of Bernie’s zoos! She’s gotten to where she is through hard work, common sense and passion for her job; a talent Bernard quickly recognized, leading him to promote her to Head Zookeeper – meaning she now leads the teams and expects them to have the same high standards as she does!

Planet Zoo has also recently been nominated for Best Simulation Game at the Gamescom Awards 2019! You can read all about Gamescom and how to watch the live-streams this coming Monday, August 19th, 2019. Frontier Developments say they will be demonstrating their new Career Mode, Gamescom Gameplay Demo, on Tuesday, August 20th, 2019 at 7PM BST on YouTube. Sandbox Mode is always fun and the best way to get super creative but we can’t wait to find out what kind of goals there will be for our zoos!

Hundred Days is an upcoming simulation game with a page already on Steam. To us it seems like a cross between a farming game and a business-tycoon or money-management game, like Chocolatier. You arrange your field and grow crops of different types of grapes to harvest them in different seasons.

But in addition to that, you also choose the recipe for your wines. It’s not all about the type of grape. The grape’s growing conditions affect its quality and attributes. Even the type of yeast you use to ferment the grapes will have an impact on the wine’s final quality. If you want to make the big bucks in Hundred Days, you’re going to have to grow the best grapes and make the best wine.

You’re even going to have to manage the soil’s PH levels. PH levels are a measure of how acidic or alkaline your soil is, and would have an effect on your grapes’ final flavour. When you harvest will also affect their attributes. With such a level of realism, we think this indie developer, Broken Arms Games, must have a real passion for vineyards and winemaking! We look forward to becoming digital oenophiles, too, once Hundred Days releases.

    Key Features

    • Simulative and realistic approach suitable for both beginners and more experienced players
    • The ability to cultivate different types of vine
    • Analyze the soil and choose the grape variety that best suits those characteristics
    • Organize work in the vineyard such as pruning or chipping
    • Protect your vines through specific treatments depending on the type of disease
    • Check the state of ripeness of the grapes and decide when to harvest
    • Follow the winemaking processes and enhance the characteristics of your wine
    • Select the yeasts and bacteria used during fermentation
    • Decide how and which of your wines age with aging
    • Customize your bottles by choosing their shape, color and other aesthetic characteristics
    • Create your sales network and adapt the characteristics of your product to the type of customer
    • Manage marketing and social activities to increase the reputation of your company

Broken Arms Games uses the tagline “A game of choice, nostalgia, and winemaking.” We’re intrigued by where ‘nostalgia’ comes into play! We also like that every choice you make in the game has an influence on its outcome. We’re looking forward to discovering and growing every type of grape and figuring out every last type of wine we can squeeze out of them!

Watch the video here, or go directly to the official site for even more info. We hope Hundred Days will be releasing soon, because we’re ready to dive into those lovely vineyards!

If you like money-management or tycoon-style games, check out Planet Zoo, due for release in early November. Or if it’s the farming aspect of Hundred Days that appeals to you, then have a look at our list of farming games on console.
