Rune Factory 4 Special was announced only a few months ago during a Nintendo Direct. After the initial release back in 2012 on the popular Nintendo 3DS, the game finally makes its way to Nintendo Switch in a more colorful, more polished and best version of it yet.
Marvelous the studio behind Rune Factory 4 Special wrapped up a live stream for the special edition and it was filled with plenty of goodies and details for the upcoming game. Rune Factory 4 Special will feature enhanced visuals and a a new mode called “Newlywed Mode” in which the player can experience special episodes with a spouse. You will also be able to get special items that can later be unlocked in Rune Factory 5.
Marvelous web stream did not feature much about the upcoming Rune Factory 5 game that was also announced during the latest Direct. But if you like you can watch the entire stream right here.

So I’ve not been tempted to get this as I spent more than a hundred hours in the 3DS version.
On top of that was the countless hours spent save scumming to get the event “Memories” to finally occur to progress the story. I was so frustrated when I finally looked up why I hadn’t seen the ending stuff, and that I was at the mercy of RNG.
However, knowing things might pass from 4 to 5, that might be enough for me to double dip. Might. The game certainly was fun and I wouldn’t mind another go through with a different spouse. However, I have a laundry list of games, and don’t know yet if the RNG is fixed?

I played Rune Factory Tides of Destiny and loved it! I’m wondering if it’s worth playing this version or waiting for Rune Factory 5.

I think I’ve played them all to some level of completion. Tides of Destiny and RF4 were the two I played the most, I think I have about 90 hours in Tides. I have just over 200 in RF4.
I take that number with a grain of salt, I probably from asleep a time out two playing, or set it down open. Looks like I made it to end of fall in year 4. Most of the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games I end sometime in just before or into year 2 as I feel I’ve completed enough to be content.
I think the portable nature of RF4 was party of the reason I kept at it longer, and also the sheer content. I remember their dev log taking about the amount of translations they had for it.

Thanks for the reply! It’s definitely a type of game you can sink a lot of hours into! I love the battling feature that’s added to a farming sim.
