The 3DS is dead! We keep hearing this. Is it true? Well…sort of. It’s certain that new 3DS games are very thin on the ground these days. But even if the amount of NEW games coming to 3DS is scanty, the existing library is already ENORMOUS! And very high-quality, too. Just check out this list of adorable games you can try for FREE right this minute and see if you don’t agree! We highly recommend grabbing your 3DS and snatching these demos off the e-shop if you have not done so already.
Extra Epic Yarn is just the newest in the Kirby series. Including the Virtual Console games, there are 14 Kirby games to play on 3DS. As for demos, 3DS also has them for Kirby: Battle Royale and Kirby: Planet Robobot. This is a Nintendo first-party series, so we doubt we need to tell you what it’s about. This is action-adventure gaming in that adorable way that is so classically Nintendo!
Ever been interested in Monster Hunter, but thought it wasn’t really very, well…cute? Well Monster Hunter Stories is the answer to your problem! This cute spin-off from the main series is just what fans of happy, wholesome gaming would want. Collect monster eggs and hatch yourself some monster buddies, each with unique skills. You can even do some gene-mixing to create monsters with the best abilities. You’re going to need a good team to get through this game’s big world and the many side quests that branch off from the main story.
Cooking Mama is the mother of all cooking games. (Sorry, we had to say it!) And you can try Cooking Mama 5: Bon Appetit! for free any time you want, and see why games that came after it (like Waku Waku Sweets) have modelled themselves after this cute series. And if cooking is just not your thing, have a look at Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends instead! It’s every bit as cute. Possibly even cuter if you’re more about cute critters and pretty flowers than strawberry-topped cupcakes. (Do we really HAVE to choose? Oh wait…NO, WE DON’T. Both of these games have demos!)
The 3DS has demos for both Style Savvy: Styling Star and Style Savvy: Fashion Forward. In our review of Style Savvy: Styling Star we show that it is a pretty good game itself! But if we compare the two, we give Fashion Forward the edge on it. You won’t just be dealing with designing clothing and dressing customers in these games. Giving someone a new style involves hair and make-up, too!
There are plenty of Pokemon games free to try on 3DS. Not just Sun/Moon, but also Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and spin-off Pokemon games Detective Pikachu and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity! Not sure you’d like a spin-off? Thanks to the wonderful invention of game demos, you can try these charming games for free whenever you please.
Even if you can’t draw, Art Academy instructional games help you produce surprisingly good work! If you love how cute Disney characters are and wish you could draw them yourself, Disney Art Academy is definitely the game for you.
Chibi-Robo!: Photo Finder is a very unique game. We’ve never played another quite like it. In it you are a tiny robot who is helping to make the opening of a new museum a success. You won’t just be cleaning up little messes and finding stamps, you will be collecting relics of the past. You buy pieces of film with silhouettes cut into them, and then search history (our real world!) for an object that matches it. Take a picture with your 3DS camera to match that silhouette as precisely as possible and Chibi-Robo can transport the object and put it on display in the museum!
This game is so unspeakably cute that it makes our teeth ache! It must just be that sweet. But we love it…oh my, yes. Ever Oasis is about defending the desert’s last oasis. You must turn this poor little puddle into a safe haven to house all of the creatures who have been unhomed by the malicious and fast-spreading Chaos. Explore and conquer dungeons and rescue other survivors and escapees. If you can entice them, they will move into your oasis and open their own shops or provide services such as farming for you or heading out into the desert to gather resources. Put those with the right skills into your party and no barrier will keep you back. Build your little oasis into a thriving bastion of health and happiness!

Have you ever wanted to be a grape? To be honest, we previously hadn’t really thought about it. But once Garden Story made us ask ourselves that question, we realized that we do, indeed, want to be grapes! Garden Story is a life-simulation adventure-RPG by Picogram, due to be published in spring 2020 by Rose City Games and Viz Media.
In Garden Story, you play as Concord. He’s a grape. (We’re not sure if ‘he’ is a ‘he’, though. Do grapes HAVE gender?) Concord has a new job: he has become the village guardian. It’s a task that would normally only require one to keep the village in good shape and the villagers happy, but something terrible has snuck onto the island under Concord’s watch. ROT.
Rot has begun to spread through the island, and it must be stopped before it overtakes everything. Thankfully, Concord lives in a village of nice peop…fruits. They’re a great bunch! If Concord is a good guardian and helps the villagers with their problems, they’ll be inclined to return the favour. Concord will have to be wise with time, because there is an environment to take care of, an island that needs exploring, friendships to make, and puzzles to solve.
Garden Story will be playable on PC, Mac and Linux. If you’re curious about this game, you can watch the video below, or visit Garden Story’s Steam page to put it on your wishlist. If you’d like to see more cute games where you adventure around, helping people, check out Errand Boy and Chicory.

We are pleased to introduce a new feature we’ve created for your reading (and gaming!) pleasure. A monthly release-date round-up! We have gathered the release dates of all the cute, family-friendly games (that we love to focus on at myPotatoGames) that are coming out in September 2019.
Sypro Reignited Trilogy became available on PS4 and Xbox in 2018. But on the 3rd it will finally be available for Switch and Steam players, as well! Enjoy this beautifully reimagined, classic adventure platformer in only a few days!
On the very same day as Spyro, we’ve got another adventure platformer game for you! Fin and the Ancient Mystery started out as a mobile game, but will be making the jump to Nintendo Switch. Help this cute fennec fox save his world on September 3rd!
Like its predecessor, Gnomes Garden: Lost King started out as a mobile game. It is now set to release on Nintendo Switch on September 5th. To find the lost king, you must direct workers, gather resources, destroy obstacles and build pathways to complete each level before the time is up!
Wuppo was first released on PC 3 years ago, and moved onto PS4 a little over half a year later. Now, finally, this cute action-adventure puzzle-platformer will be on Nintendo Switch! Follow a little Wum named Wuppo as they search the world for a new place to call home, piece together the world’s history and even solving ancient conflicts on the journey. Wuppo may fight a few boss battles, but more than anything, they must use wits and charm to succeed!
Early September sure is stacked with cute game releases. Pocket Clothier will be on Switch very soon. Run your own clothing store! Stock your shop, arrange the mannequins and run promotions. Even install a crepe stand in your store. Depending on how you advise your customers to dress, they may be inspired to start a new career!
In Reel Fishing: Road Trip Adventure, you head across country in your RV to fish, craft, and cook with four anime-styled teenagers. This game boasts a “full RPG storyline”, and over 20 fish from more than 10 locations. Available for pre-order in physical form for Switch and PS4 from many online retailers such as GameStop or Amazon.
A gorgeous game in the style if Studio Ghibli, Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch first released in the west on PS3 in 2013. Now, almost 7 years later, we can play it on Switch! PS4 and PC will also be receiving new, enhanced versions of the game on the same day. (Note: the Switch version is not enhanced.)
This September is rife with remakes and sequels. Link’s Awakening, the 4th game in the Legend of Zelda series, was first released in 1993. This adorable remake has been completely redesigned, graphics-wise. And it looks as cute as all get out! Find this Nintendo exclusive on the eShop now.
Yes, we have a third game for September 20th! In Untitled Goose Game, you are a horrible goose. Most games are all about playing the hero…the good guy. But sometimes it just feels so good to play the bad goose! Make messes, steal small items, and just generally ruin everyone’s day when this game releases on Switch and the Epic Game Store.
In the cuter quarters of the internet, Cat Quest was a bit hit! As such, we’ve been keeping a close eye on the upcoming sequel, Cat Quest II. Return to Felingard to conquer dungeons and bring peace to the kingdoms on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on September 24th!
Mario Kart Tour will be available on iOS and Android on September 25th and will be free to play. You can already pre-register for the game via Nintendo’s official Mario Kart Tour website. The game includes plenty of unique tracks with fun turns and twists that we all came to love and expect from the franchise. Familiar characters, boosts and items are also all part of the mobile version.
Songbird Symphony released digitally on PC and consoles on July 25th, 2019. Now the physical versions are coming out for Nintendo Switch and PS4 on September 20th, 2019 in Europe and November 5th, 2019 in North America! Don’t miss your chance to chirp and sing your way through this heart-warming journey of discovery, as orphaned chick ‘Birb’ sets off to find his true origins.
Fishing Star World Tour is actually already on the Switch e-shop as of January 2019. But is also being released by Aksys games in physical form in September. (See more on that situation HERE.) With 180 fish available to catch across 40 different locations, this cute, colourful game will keep us occupied for a while! No specific date has yet been given.
The Realm of Magic game pack for The Sims 4 will be available September 10th for PC (via Origin). And on October 15th for PS4 and Xbox! This enchanting pack will allow you to learn magic, brew potions, and have duels with other magic users. You can also dress yourself and decorate your home like a proper witch or wizard. You can also summon a magical creature (like a dragon or a fairy) to be your familiar! And who wouldn’t want a dragon for a familiar?!
The 3rd and final DLC of the Overcooked 2 Season Pass has been revealed. The Season Pass is priced at £14.99/€16.99/$19.99 and includes Night of the Hangry Horde and Campfire Cook Off, and now Carnival of Chaos which will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4 and Xbox One on September 12th, 2019
The amazingly detailed and beautiful Planet Zoo will have a beta phase on Steam that runs from September 24 to October 8. The beta phase will only be open to those who have pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition. The full version of Planet Zoo is expected to launch on November 5.

So many packs, so little time! EA has done it again. They’ve made a beautiful looking game pass for the Sims 4 that we really want. The most recent addition to the roster was Island Living, back in June. On September 10th PC and Mac players will be getting another new pack that is less tropical and more…magical. The Realm of Magic game pack will also be available on consoles starting October 15th! (PS4 and Xbox One)
Once the update is applied, you’ll be able to find a portal in the woods in Glimmerbrook that will lead you to a new world. And there you will be able to learn magic! You can even get yourself a cauldron and start brewing potions. Including love potions! If you feel like it, you can test your new magical skills against fellow spellcasters, too. Magical duels, here we come!
If you don’t feel very magical in your t-shirt and jeans, there are no worries there. The Realm of Magic pack will include lots of new clothing to suit your new abilities. Enchanting dresses, mystical robes, amulets…the works. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if they’ll also have new furniture and decorating items to make our mini-mansion mystical. Meanwhile, you can view the full video here:
You can view the Realm of Magic game pack on the official site. You can also see all of our coverage of Sims 4 right here.

Over two years ago, we covered the then-upcoming PS4 release of a cute little game galled Wuppo. Imagine our surprise when, after sneaking onto the Nintendo Switch e-shop to admire Link’s Awakening screenshots (again), we saw Wuppo: Definitive Edition gleaming proudly among the other upcoming releases! The game is set to release less than a week from now, on September 5.
Wuppo is a Wum. (Wums appear to be small spherical creatures of different colours who resemble something between a rice ball and a gumball with four tiny legs.) And Wuppo has lost his home. He has been exiled! There’s nothing left to do but travel the world and find somewhere new to call home. It looks like he’ll have some pretty big adventures along the way. And maybe even resolving some ancient conflicts as he goes! If you’ve got to resolve ancient conflicts, we think doing so in a cute and colourful world is the best choice.
We look forward to honing our social skills and collecting bits of filmstrip to piece together the world’s history on September 5th. (Wuppo: Definitive Edition will also be on Steam and GoG.) Watch the video here for more information.
For another game about a cute protagonist trying to get home, check out A Hat in Time. It will hit Nintendo Switch on October 18, and it, too, will have a brand new co-op mode!

Described by the developers as “cooking manga meets monster-farming sim”, Sushi Wildlands is a game we want to keep track of! More seriously called a first-person, open world RPG, Sushi Wildlands is based on an original manga by the developers themselves. The game will be on Kickstarter soon! For now, you can keep track of the game developers via Twitter, Discord or Steam.
Could Sushi Wildlands be Shokugeki no Soma meets Slime Rancher?! It’s a cooking game and a farming simulation all in one! We could really get behind a crazy mash-up like that. You’ve inherited your beloved grandpa’s sushi shop and must defend it against the thug-like owner of a rival sushi shop. Your rival believes that expensive ingredients and dishes and setting make the sushi, but you believe it’s all about TASTE.
To prove yourself right, you will have to make your sushi shop a success. But you aren’t wealthy like your rival! So you’re going to have to roll up your sleeves and dive into the magical wildlands connected to your shop. There you can gather materials and capture ‘sushimon’ and construct a farm to keep them in. Sushimon appear to be bouncy little creatures that look like sentient rice balls. (We want some!) Your sushimon will then provide you with everything you need in Sushi Wildlands. Harvest them for all the awesome ingredients they can poop out! (Yes…literally. But at least that means we get to keep our rice ball buddies. No slaughtering the stock in Sushi Wildands!)
No specific date has yet been revealed for when Sushi Wildlands will head to Kickstarter, but we’ve got our eye on it now and will be sure to update you when it does!
If this post has given you a yen for sushi, satisfy your craving with games like Rolling Hills or The Sushi Spinnery.

Any game that says it will allow us to ‘shape the world under our feet like clay’ has our attention. Astroneer first released, digitally-only, on Steam and Xbox One in February of this year. During that time, this space-exploration game has maintained a ‘very positive’ rating across over 34,000 reviews on Steam. And now we have the great news that the game will release onto PS4 as well! You can buy a physical copy of Astroneer for Xbox One or PS4 on November 15th, 2019.
You can watch the PS4 announcement video right here. It doesn’t have a lot of gameplay content! But watching one little pioneer-astronaut play with his buddy (literally!) via PS4 controller was really cute.
It should be noted that the one consistent note of dissatisfaction with this game was in its multiplayer aspect. Glitches plague the multiplayer feature, even according to many of those who love the game on Steam. We don’t yet know if that will change as the game releases for PS4.
We’re quite excited to play this space exploration sandbox game. Let’s build bases on every planet and shape each world to suit its own unique style! We can’t wait to join PC and Xbox One players and see what is possible in Astroneer on November 15.
If you like games of space exploration, where you can build bases on the planets you visit, you might want to get a good look at Kerbal Space Program 2.

Shipping Out! is a brand new indie game about friendship and adventure. What’s more, you can go download it right now, for the fabulous price of…whatever you want to pay! (What price could be better than ‘name your own’?) It is not a long game, so it won’t eat up too much of your time. Take a look at the Shipping Out! trailer.
In Shipping Out!, you will first create your character. There’s lots of customization available, so make your avatar in your own style! And in a very unusual feature, it seems that you can even customize the appearance of your own parents.
Once you’re satisfied with your style, go experience your first day at a new school. Make friends, and be mystified by the strange goings-on happening around your new town, McGuire. Things are going missing. Are they being STOLEN? We hope this screenshot doesn’t indicate that even the pets aren’t safe!
With friends at your side, you will find the reasons behind the rash of disappearances (or thefts?) happening in McGuire. You can download Shipping Out here. And if you like their game and want to support these indie devs, don’t forget to follow DPandaHeart on Twitter. Boost their signal by hitting ‘like’ and ‘retweet’, folks! If this game does well, who knows what other awesome games we may see from them in the future?
If you like indie games about friendship and adventure, take a look at Sayri Adventure, due out for consoles and PC this year!
