Today we got a closer look at how the airport will work in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Todays Animal Crossing Direct was so full of new details about ACNH that I am still having a hard time processing it all. From the terraforming of the world around you to the free updates that we will see, this AC Direct really helped to prepare us for what to expect when arriving on our new island.
One of the new features discussed in the Direct was the addition of the airport. From all the previous info we’ve seen, we already knew this was going to be a thing. But this direct gave us the lowdown on what the airport is for, and how it works.
What is the Dodo Airlines airport?
Dodo Airlines is the name of the airport that you will have access to, starting the day after your arrival to the deserted island. It is a small structure which appears to be located at the south side of your island.
The building features a Leaf Flag, a small command tower and a sea plane parked just out front. The airport also just happens to be the location that you first get to interact with, since the plane is your method of arrival. The airport will be open and accessible round the clock, all year long.
What is the airport for?
In New Horizons, the airport will be used to travel to different islands to gather whatever resources might be there. Already have your own island the way you like it? Don’t want to use the recourse on your island for sake of having the more natural look? Then use the plane to travel to different islands to gather the materials you need.
It also appears that you will be able to meet new animals on the different islands, and invite them to live on your island. No doubt, there will be something(s) that they will require for this to happen, but that is to be expected. It is, after all, still Animal Crossing!
Inviting friends.
The airport will also be used in conjunction with online/multiplayer functionality. This is where you will invite your friends to come to your island, or accept an invite and travel to their island. In order to make things safe for everyone, this will be done using the classic friend code system, and will be manageable through parental controls.
You will also need to talk to Oriville, the pilot/manager, if you wish to invite friends just though local multiplayer as well. With this, up to eight people can inhabit a single island at any given time.
Send a postcard.
The airport is also where you will go to send and receive postcards. Send adorable messages to all your animal friends, of course with that Animal Crossing cuteness we know and love. You will also be able to attach gifts to your messages, hopefully increasing your chances to get something rare and awesome in return.
