During todays Animal Crossing New Horizons Direct we have learned a lot about the upcoming game, next to island terrain customizations one other thing that really caught my eye was the introduction of free event updates and DLC.
Time traveling has been part of every mainline Animal Crossing game in history. Since the games time advances at the same rate as the real life time players are often inclined to “cheat” by changing the systems time to farm seasonal event rewards and more. In Animal Crossing New Horizons Nintendo breaks this habit by introducing free updates that will deliver events.
Seasonal Events now come with free Game Updates!
During todays Animal Crossing Direct Nintendo revealed that there will be plenty of post launch updates made available to the game. Some updates will be free and some I can only assume will most likely be paid DLC.
The free updates will introduce seasonal events with the Bunny Day Festival being the first one ready to download on launch day March 20th, 2020!
Seasonal events not being available until Nintendo releases the update will combat time traveling to some extend. You can no longer just change your systems date to December 25th and experience Christmas in all its glory since the rewards you can gather from those specific events will be made available through a free download that Nintendo decides when to release.
Paid DLC and Free Updates
Nintendo made a clear difference between free updates that will include seasonal events as well as DLC that is safe to assume will introduce new content for the exchange of real life bells.
However, do keep in mind that every seasonal event will be free and you will not have to pay to enjoy these! Paid DLC will be additional content that is not required to enjoy any of the core features of the game.
