In a recent video shared by the The Pokemon Secret Members club, we got a super close look at the first town in Pokemon Sword & Shield. In the video, there is a nice little walk through the town, showing the locations of the shops and centers.
Not only do we get to see the town, but the video also features some original music from the game, that many have said is reminiscent of the Sinnoh theme. I just can’t get enough of all the gameplay that we have been seeing recently. Especially after getting such a close look at this years E3.
With the release of Pokemon Sword & Shield being so close, I say the more spoilers the better! This new video really helps to give the feel of how this grand new journey will begin, and I can’t wait to dive in.
For all the details one might need about this installment in the Pokemon Series, be sure to check out the official website. Or you can check out my coverage of the game here.
The release of Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield is just around the corner, on November 20th this year. What better way to get ready than to start stocking up on Sword/Shield memorabilia. Nothing says I live and breathe Pokemon like super cute plushies. We now have access to the plushie form of the starter Pokemon from Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. The starting line-up for Sword and Shield holds true to the classic hand-held Pokemon formula, all super adorable little monsters with the capacity to transform into world-altering beasts.
The three starters for Sword/Shield (for those that missed it, somehow) are Scorbunny, Grookey and Sobble. Scorbunny is a fire-type rabbit Pokemon with the ability to light fires under its feet. Grookey is an adorable little chimp-like grass Pokemon with the ability to actually force-grow the grass around it. That just leaves Sobble, and if you know anything about the Pokemon franchise, you are already aware that Sobble must be the water type option. Sobble is a cute little blue creature with the ability to blend into a watery environment.
If you would like to get your hands on some of the little cuties right now, you can do so pretty easily through the Sunyshore PokeMart! For all the details you might need regarding Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, be sure to check out myPotatoGames coverage of the title.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield will be released this year on November 15th, and you can find out plenty of information about it by clicking here. Right now, we would like to discuss the topic of the all new Pokemon that will be joining the adventure when the game drops. Each new Pokemon title tends to come with its own array of new monsters, and Sword & Shield are no different. We now have some pretty in-depth details about what these new monsters will really be like.
Having a name that is also a play on words is pretty much the basis for all Pokemon. Apparently a mix between alchemy and creme, we expect this ultra-cute creature will have some pretty tasty abilities. Alcremie totally has the ability to produce creme, which it can use in the pastry business, or to blind foes and bail. The creme is also super potent in its soothing affect, causing foes to lose the will to battle. That sure is some “heavy” creme. Alcremie will have a Gigantamax version, making it more powerful and even creamier!
Yamper is an adorable little pupper Pokemon with same tendencies as its real-life counterpart. Yamper is easily distracted and loves to chase everything that moves! Yampers ability is one that is new to the series. Ball Catch allows Yamper to catch a Pokeball that missed its target, as long as Yamper isn’t holding an item. Yamper also has the ability to create electricity as it moves, so he looks super charged up as he chases whatever is around.
Rolcoly is definitely one of the most useful rock Pokemon. It can easily guide the way through caves with the light that illuminates from its eye. The coal that its body produces is often used in helpful ways. Its new ability, Steam Engine, will drastically increase its speed if its attacked by a fire or water move. This is one stone cold Pokemon that every spelunker needs.
Duraludon is made of a very light alloy, which gives him the ability to move quickly and precisely. This alloy unfortunately does have the weakness of being extra susceptible to rust, however. Duraludon is a mountain dwelling creature, and uses its two unique arms to grind up mountains for food. Certainly a formidable foe that will be worth catching.

As promised, Nintendo has delivered with an all new RPG pocket monster adventure in their Pokemon Direct this morning. Pokemon Sword and Shield were revealed and the release has been set for sometime later this year. The footage in said Direct depicted a colorful, open-world adventure game to truly rival it’s predecessors. A whole new journey awaits, with new characters, creatures and locales, giving even the most venerable Poke-champs something to look forward to.
When it comes to the exploration of possible psychotic tendencies, Pokemon is our classic go-to. Nothing beats the feeling of pitting two gentle and unique monsters against each other in a savage fight to unconsciousness. Grinding battle after battle, you must fight to be the best trainer in the land, all while watching from a safe distance. Command these cute creatures to do inexplicable things to each other for your benefit, so that others may come to know your mastery of adjuration.
Deep-seated psychoses aside, time after time Game Freak has delivered with that classic turn-based battle style that meshes seamlessly with the art in way to create a near perfect game. Pokemon Sword and Shield appear to be sticking very close to this formula, which will hopefully ensure an experience reminiscent of the originals, but with prettier graphics and new monsters to befriend.
By clicking here, you may pre-order Pokemon Shield and Pokemon Sword. In doing so, you will ensure that you receive a $10 reward certificate with your purchase.
The Wild Area and online options become accessible early on in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. If you don’t like spoiling new 8th generation Pokemon or like to catch as many Pokemon on your own before trading, I recommend getting all of your badges in the main game to fully enjoy everything the online multiplayer feature has to offer. You must have all 7 Gym Badges (last one is the Dragon Badge) in order to find Gigantamax Pokemon in the Wild Area. I go into more details and which select few Pokemon have Gigantamax forms here. See below for more information about playing with other players and ongoing official competitions by Nintendo for rewards and bragging rights!
Link Battles are between you and other players online. If you only want to play with your friends specifically, you can set up a Link Code. A Link Code is a 4-digit password that your friends will have to input in order to join. This is set up this way because everything you do is broadcast live via Stamps (more on that later). Link Battles allow you to choose Single Battle for one-on-one battling and Double Battle where two players can send out 2 Pokemon at one time. Finally, there’s Multi Battle which is similar to a Double Battle but four players are involved and get to control one Pokemon each.
Link Trades are the way to go if you have a certain Pokemon in mind that you want to trade with a friend. You can also connect with someone randomly online and both come to an agreement for a trade. If there’s a Pokemon you know you don’t need anymore, Surprise Trades can be really fun! Select the Pokemon that you want traded and go about your business in-game until your Y-Comm alerts you that they found you someone and the trade is complete. As adorable as Skwovet is (the pudgy-cheeked squirrel), you’ll probably come across it often in Surprise Trades as it is the new Ratata. Other times you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what players send out there!
Go to your menu and click on VS (Victory Station) which displays stats such as whether Shield players or Sword players are winning in categories like “Hatched the most eggs” and “Cooked the most while camping” by comparing numbers with 100 players online. From there, you can select either Battle Stadium for various online competition options or Live Competition to host or participate in battles via LAN.
Nintendo just announced that Ranked Battle Season 1 is now under way until the end of December 2019. During this time, the rules listed will remain the same with restrictions to Pokemon that you can use. Another season will be starting on January 1st, 2020. For this time around, you’ll be entering in Double Battles, using only 4 Pokemon from your team, and all of your Pokemon will be at Lv. 50. At the end of the season, if you’ve competed in at least one match, you can get the following rewards from the Mystery Gift menu.
Battle Points, or BP, can be spent by talking to an NPC in the Pokemon Center in Hammerlocke in exchange for special items.
Going to your Y-Comm and changing your Local Communication to Internet will allow you to see what everyone online is currently up to by displaying Stamps at all times on the bottom left of your screen. This includes Link Trades, Surprise Trades, Link Battles, and Max Raid Battles. In your Y-Comm menu, it is possible to filter your Stamps if you are looking for specific battles to join or only want to see the Stamps of your friends. I usually set mine to Max Raid Battles and pay attention to the specific red ones as they are the “incredibly/massively strong Pokemon” ones. If someone else found a rare Gigantamax Pokemon, you can join in with a total of 4 players. You’ll want to act fast as this can fill up quickly.
If you find your own Gigantamax Pokemon, I recommend Inviting Others as it’s a very tough battle to fight alone or the three other NPCs given at random can be pretty terrible. You’ll come across a few Magikarp that will often faint and then come back after a few turns at full health, only to faint again.
In every Max Raid Battle, any Pokemon can faint up to 4 times before you lose and get kicked out of the den. You also lose if you go over 10 total turns. Therefore, either set up a Link Code for your friends, or wait the full 3 minutes to give players the chance to join. It is possible to have a mixture of players and NPCs if you can’t fill out all four slots.
Even if you have finished the main game of Pokemon Sword and Shield, there are still competitions to enter for rewards and your Pokemon to show-off. If you want to fill out your Pokedex, you’ll need to spend some time in the Wild Area, and to trade for version exclusive Pokemon. Hosting or joining others in Max Raid Battles and Dynamaxing Pokemon is also another fun way to share in the experience and to get the most out of your game.
Of course to do all that you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online account. You can find the pricing plans here, however, I recommend getting an Amazon Prime account now as you get Twitch Prime and 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online at no extra cost. Find out more about that amazing limited time offer here.
We at myPotatoGames have been keeping a close eye on the next installments in the Pokemon series, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. Since the reveal, there has been a pretty good amount of information divulged, including some gameplay at this years Nintendo Treehouse. Recently, we even got to take a look at some of the new monsters coming to the Pokemon universe. Now, we’ve learned through Twitter that soon we will get to find out even more about what’s going on with this soon-to-be-released epic title.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are set to be released on November 15th, this year, and will only be available on the Nintendo Switch. The game was developed by Game Freak, the same people that created pretty much all of the most famous Pokemon games, like Red/Blue, Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire. The game takes place in the Galar region, which is described by developers as a more modern setting. For more information about Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield, be sure to keep an eye on the official Pokemon website, as well as the official Pokemon Twitter.
Nintendo just recently streamed the Mario Maker 2 Nintendo Direct a few days ago, today the company surprised us with the announcement of an upcoming Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Direct.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are expected to be released later this year, as they are part of Nintendos 2019 roaster. The announcement of this Direct makes fans wonder what will be shown at E3 next month in Los Angeles. As there are only few games left the big N has not talked about yet, such as Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Astral Chain, Animal Crossing Switch, Daemon X Machina, Luigi’s Mansion 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
Fans are wondering if this opens up the opportunity to make an Animal Crossing Switch E3 presentation much like the Breath of the Wild E3 back in 2016, that exclusively focused on the Zelda title. Animal Crossing Switch was announced in September, 2018 and since then, no additional details have been revealed. If history is any indication the next installment of the beloved village simulator could celebrate its debut be at E3 2019. Animal Crossing New Leaf was shown off for the first time during the 2010 E3 as well.
We here at myPotatoGames are hopeful that Animal Crossing will be at E3 based on Nintendos recent investor call, in which was mentioned that the upcoming E3 will be the place the big N plans to talk about all Nintendo games coming in 2019, this also includes Animal Crossing Switch – if you missed the news, you can get caught up here.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for Isabelle, Tom Nook and all the other lovable as well as sometimes mildly annoying characters to make an appearance on our Nintendo Switch console.
You can watch the Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Nintendo Direct below on June 5th at 6:00 A.M. PT / 9:00 A.M. ET.
For some extra excitement, we are also keeping an eye on the recent news on Story of Seasons Switch.

Arceus is the next big new Pokémon game, a lengthy and in-depth look was shared during todays presentation. The new video shows improved graphics over Sword and Shield something the latest installment had been criticized for.
In addition the long awaited Pokémon Arceus, a new game in the franchise will release on January 28th, 2022. While there was plenty of new footage and details about the bigger games, Pokémon Unite also received some love in form of a mobile announcements.
